Interview: EA Korea Studio Head Talks Transitions, Challenges :: 09-01-09 14:56:22

In an interview with Gamasutra, EA Korea Studio Head Danny Isaac discusses some of

their future plans which may include a new BF game. Take a look:

With Battlefield Heroes, Neowiz is also working on it with EA, is that correct?

Danny: No. Battlefield Heroes is independent of Neowiz. We actually have another product. We're actually taking Battlefield, the original product. We're discussing whether Heroes is right for the market here.

One of the interesting things I've said to one of my guys about Heroes is that the cartoony graphical style was very much like some of the earlier Korean games, so it is perceived as being somewhat older. I still think it's a great-looking game.

It's fantastic, for free, very high quality. But Koreans would see that kind of cartoony style and think it's a little bit older.

The other thing is that all the Korean men, at least, do national service here. So they know what an M16 looks like, they know what an M1 tank looks like. They're very hardcore into the military side of things. A World War II shooter is maybe not as appealing as a hardcore, modern combat type of product.

So, with Neowiz we're working actually on the Battlefield franchise. We're taking a Battlefield II engine and we're converting it to a free-to-play model.

Account and server list outage :: 16-12-08 02:02:16

During Sunday evening players were unable to log in to Battlefield 2 correctly or see the server lists in BF2 and BF2142. This was quickly noticed by EA and GameSpy who had engineers working to restore the service as fast as possible.

After investigation the problem was located and resolved and service resumed at approximately 22:30 GMT (14:30 PST). The outage was the result of a load balancer that didn’t failover to its backup correctly, all account and server list access has returned to normal. Should you have any issues regarding logging in or viewing the server list please contact EA Support at http://support.ea.com. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Disney to Buy EA? :: 12-12-08 04:02:39

Rumors are floating around today that Disney might be buying Electronic Arts,

although The Motley Fool states the chances of this deal are slim.

Asked if Disney's focus would be on developing in-house games over buying more developers, [CFO Tom] Staggs responded, "I don't want you to conclude that those are in the long term mutually exclusive." He went on to say that a "strategic and attractive" purchase would be "a possibility" for the family entertainment giant.

Did he say Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS)? No. However, a combination of EA's battered share price and Disney's desire to ramp up its gaming presence dovetail nicely in the rumor mill. Read the rest...

Project Reality v0.8 Single Player :: 12-12-08 03:55:50
bf2-mod-project-reality-v0-8-single-player-8335_15.gif

PRSP Core and Map Pack Files

Well it took a while but it's here at last after a lot of headaches, sweat and tears.

***** IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION *****

***** PLEASE READ BEFORE INSTALLING PRSP v0.8 *****

***** PLEASE REMOVE OR RENAME ANY OLD COPYS OF PRSP *****

***** PLEASE READ EVERYTHING IN THIS STICKY *****

1. Make sure you have installed PR MP CORE and MAPS before you install PRSP v0.8

2. This Installer will find the path for your Battlefield 2 installation, if for any reason it does not then navigate to where yours is installed.
The installer will make a new folder called pr_sp_08 in your mods folder.

3. This Installer will also make a shortcut on your Desktop and point to wherever you installed pr_sp_08... but if for whatever reason it does not (maybe Vista users) then there is a shortcut in the pr_sp_08 folder with the default install path ("C:Program FilesEA GamesBattlefield 2modsprpr.exe" +modPath mods/pr_sp_08 +menu 1 +fullscreen 1) just copy it to your desktop.

NOTE: If you have your BF2 installed in a different location make sure the shortcut is pointing to the correct path in the Target box and Start in box (do this by right cliking on the shortcut and going to properties)

Thats all there is to it....... enjoy

This version will also work OK when you have installed the upcoming PR v0.85 as well.

There is a patch for the PRSP v0.8 Map Pack 1 already as I only just found out that the map 'Operation Archer' is not compatible with the new PR v0.85 map as the client.zip has changed.

*****************************************
You will notice that we use the coop menu now, this is because it's easier for you to set it up the way you want it and saves you having to edit files and using the Bot Changer program.

Setting up the Single Player/Coop menu.....

Max players 1 to 32 - depends how many humans are playing... if set to 1- 16 and only one human is playing then bots will still be 48.
Auto Balance unchecked.
Ticket Ratio 200% - this will give you double the tickets in the init.con and so on.
Bots 48 - or whatever number you want below this.
Bot ratio 50% - this makes bots equal on both sides.
Bot Difficulty - 90

So a max of 16 players (humans) and 48 bots will give you 64 in total
Max players 1 and 47 bots will give you 48 bots in total etc etc.

NOTE: 48 bots is the max you will get, anymore and PRSP bots don't work too well.

We hope you enjoy Project Reality Single Player as much as we do

Have fun

Heroes Q&A List: Your questions, our answers :: 06-12-08 13:37:59
1

The Battlefield Heroes website has been updated today with a huge list of questions and answers about the game.

What is the maximum level you can achieve? Will it ever increase?
The level “cap” is currently 30. We’re assuming that BF Heroes will be around for a while and evolve over time, so you could say it’s a reasonable assumption that at some point the level cap will increase.

Are the available weapons balanced? Or is there a lot of difference between them?
Obviously different weapons will have different strengths and weaknesses. Depending on what class you play, what abilities you use and also things like your play style will mostly determine the “actual” strength of a certain weapon. That said, there will always be potential for some balance to shift within an online multiplayer game. This is why we are, and continuously will be, going to the community for feedback as well as doing our own continued testing.

Are there any plans to implement more classes or ones that players can unlock?
At the moment we feel that we have three classes with a lot of diversity among them and players will have a lot of fun for a long time.

How many players will be able to play on the same server?
Battlefield Heroes is currently aimed at 8v8, so 16 total.

Will there be a Battle Recorder like BF2?
We haven’t decided yet. This is something we may add in the future. We’re currently looking at ways to make it easier to use.

More more more .....

Battlefield 2 v1.5 Patch Public Beta Coming Soon :: 01-12-08 00:08:33
Bazajaytee of DICE has posted up some new information over on the EA forums
regarding the new v1.5 patch for BF2. Take a look:
Yep there will be a public Beta before final so you can see what we have been working on. Some things you'll see/experience and other things you won't as its behind the scenes to secure Battlefield 2 accounts and playing experiences.

The beta would be for everyone that wants to install it, the more people that do the better feedback we get and we don't have an update 1.30 again. That update alone set us on the road of public beta to stop it from happening in another update. The plan is to get it out before Christmas yes.
For some more commentary from Bazajaytee be sure to visit this thread.
EDIT:
DICE sent some more specific information
A few months ago we announced Battlefield 2 Update 1.50 was in development, but so far we have been quiet regarding the content of the update. It is time for us to reveal some of the features the update will contain! The priority for us in this update has been to secure Battlefield 2 against a number of attacks against the game.

We have spent time looking into the attacks and implemented short term solutions with the help of GameSpy to limit the impact of stats padding and leaderboard abuse. Other issues have been found to be game and server based, which is where Update 1.50 comes in. what Battlefield 2 1.50 will contain a number of security updates, including the following:

Server crashing – We have worked with the issues causing servers to crash, which has caused problems for the community (especially those who rent ranked servers).

Name/ID spoofing – Extra steps have been implemented to ensure the soldier being used belongs to the right account.

Commander assets – This is to stop the excessive spawning of multiple crates, UAVs or vehicles.

More information on Update 1.50 will be revealed as we approach the release date!
